Our first renewables project and the UK’s first crowd funded wind turbine. It has been generating clean renewable energy since late 2012 and delivers returns to over 420 investors. It has supported a large number of community initiatives through grants from the St Briavels Wind Turbine Community Resilience Fund (over £55,000 donated from the first four years of operation).
A successful community Share Offer, by Resilient Energy Mounteneys Renewables, enabled the two 500kW community turbines to be installed in March 2017. The project intends to launch its own webpage as a news portal regarding progress towards the opening of its Community Resilience Fund.
This project is now a fully-fledged community benefit society and construction of this project was completed in the autumn of 2015. The turbine is now operating in line with expectations and exporting to the grid. A second Share Offer is providing an opportunity for investment in an operational community energy project (6% average annual return predicted)
Planning permission was granted by the Forest of Dean District council in August 2015 but the project has unfortunately been the subject of legal challenge. We are currently awaiting a Court of Appeal judgment on whether this locally supported community project can proceed.
